ACTING FOR STAGE
Online Acting & Live Performance Class | Ages 8–16
Beginner through Advanced
Step beyond traditional scene study and acting for the camera and discover what it takes to prepare for a live stage performance.
While acting for stage and screen share the same foundation of truthful storytelling, performing live requires its own unique set of skills. Actors must learn how to command a stage, project their voices, create believable characters, memorize their material, work as an ensemble, stay present from beginning to end, and connect with an audience—all without the benefit of another take.
During the first half of Acting for Stage, students will develop the essential tools of the stage actor, including:
-
Stage Presence & Confidence – Learning how to enter a performance space with purpose and command an audience’s attention.
-
Voice & Projection – Developing vocal strength, clarity, articulation, pacing, and expression.
-
Character Development – Building believable characters through objectives, relationships, physicality, imagination, and emotional connection.
-
Movement & Physical Expression – Understanding how the body communicates and how physical choices help bring a character to life.
-
Listening & Reacting – Staying present and connected with fellow actors throughout a live performance.
-
Stage Technique – Learning entrances, exits, cues, blocking, timing, and other fundamentals of theatrical performance.
-
Memorization & Script Preparation – Developing techniques for learning lines, retaining dialogue, understanding cues, and becoming confident performing without relying on a script.
-
Ensemble Work – Developing the discipline, responsibility, and teamwork required to create a successful production together.
FROM TRAINING TO PRODUCTION
Once students have developed these foundational skills, the class transitions from training into rehearsal and production.
Students will be introduced to a recognizable play and cast in an age-appropriate abridged production or selected theatrical piece. Each actor will receive a role and experience the process of bringing a theatrical production to life.
Students will work together to develop their characters, analyze the script, learn blocking, memorize their lines and scenes, rehearse as an ensemble, and polish their performances under the guidance of their instructor.
Memorization is an important part of this course. Students will be taught techniques and strategies to help them learn and retain their material, but they should also come prepared to put in the necessary work outside of class and be willing to commit their assigned scenes to memory. Just as in a professional theatrical production, preparation and knowing your material are essential responsibilities of every cast member.
The goal isn't simply to learn about stage acting—it's to experience the process of becoming part of a theatrical production.
LIVE FINAL PERFORMANCE
The course culminates in a live online theatrical performance via Zoom for family, friends, and invited guests.
Students will put everything they've learned into practice and experience the excitement, responsibility, teamwork, and accomplishment that comes from performing live for an audience.
Whether a student dreams of performing in professional theater, wants to become a stronger film and television actor, or simply wants to build confidence and discover the excitement of live performance, Acting for Stage provides an engaging and supportive environment to develop skills that can last a lifetime.
Open to beginner through advanced actors ages 8–16.
